Transfobia: Eddie Redmayne le respondió a J.K. Rowling
Cuando hace pocos días Daniel Radcliffe hizo público su desacuerdo con J.K. Rowling sobre los puntos de vista de la autora sobre las personas trans, muchos aplaudieron la actitud del actor que comenzó su carrera y siempre será identificado con Harry Potter, el personaje creado por Rowling. Claro que en su caso la relación laboral con la escritora es una cuestión del pasado, un vínculo muy diferente al que tiene con ella Eddie Redmayne, que acaba de sumarse a la lista de personas que buscan diferenciarse de las opiniones transfóbicas de Rowling.
El actor ganador del Oscar por La teoría del todo y nominado por su interpretación de una mujer transgénero en La chica danesa es el protagonista de la saga Animales fantásticos, que pertenece al universo Potter y que la propia autora adaptó en dos oportunidades para el cine (más una tercera que se había comenzado a filmar en Islandia cuando el rodaje tuve que suspenderse debido al coronavirus. Además, Redmayne trabajó con las hermanas Wachowski, ambas mujeres trans, en el film El destino de Júpiter.
"El respeto por las personas transgénero sigue siendo un imperativo cultural y durante años he intentado educarme al respecto. Es un proceso en marcha. Al ser una persona que trabajó con J.K. Rowling y con integrantes de la comunidad trans quería dejar perfectamente claro cuál es mi posición sobre el tema. Estoy en desacuerdo con los comentarios de Jo. Las mujeres trans son mujeres, los hombres trans son hombres y las identidades no binarias son válidas. No me gustaría hablar en nombre de la comunidad pero sé que mis queridos amigos y colegas transgénero están cansados de que su identidad sea cuestionada constantemente, lo que en demasiadas ocasiones deriva en violencia y abusos. Ellos simplemente quieren vivir sus vidas en paz y es tiempo de que los dejen hacerlo", escribió Redmayne en un comunicado que difundieron The Hollywood Reporter y Variety, que también publicó un análisis sobre las consecuencias que la polémica instalada por Rowling podría tener en el futuro de las películas que transcurran en el universo que ella creó.
Hoy, al tiempo que el comunicado de Redmayne empezaba a difundirse, la autora, por su lado, publicó en su página j.k.rowling.com un ensayo en el que explica y contextualiza el origen de sus opiniones vertidas durante el fin de semana en Twitter, entre las que ennumera una nueva legislación en Escocia sobre la identificación de género y como esa iniciativa le recordó su traumático primer matrimonio en el que fue abusada sexualmente.
