Premiarán a tres argentinos por su aporte a la música

Y los Grammy a la Presidencia son para: Fito Páez, el Chaqueño Palavecino y... Susana Giménez. ¿Cómo? Pasado mañana, la Academia Latina de Grabación, que organiza los Grammy latinos, realizará por primera vez en el país la entrega del Premio a la Presidencia y el número uno de la organización, el mexicano Gabriel Abaroa, explica de qué se trata este triple reconocimiento. "Los personajes a los que se premia no tienen que ser necesariamente artistas, sino que alcanza con estar conectados con el mundo musical. Se le ha otorgado este premio a Lepoldo Federico, que es un maestro, compositor, intérprete, pero también a Fernando Hernández, que es un disquero, que logró tres cosas: la primera es que creó una escuela a base de reclutar talento que hoy todavía sigue vigente y que lo quiere, lo cual es difícil; la segunda, que es un hombre que ha permanecido por más de cincuenta años en la industria, y la tercera, que nunca nadie lo ha acusado de nada, y eso ya es suficiente para darle una medalla de oro", concluye jocoso Abaroa.
Bueno, dejando de lado que dos de las tres celebridades argentinas elegidas por la academia no puedan decir lo mismo que el tal Hernández a la hora de las acusaciones en su contra, el boletín oficial de la organización con sede en los Estados Unidos sostiene que Susana Giménez "ha sido clave en el lanzamiento y difusión de grandes artistas musicales en la Argentina y en el exterior". De allí, el galardón para la diva. Y punto. Además, al fin y al cabo, Susana suele cantar en la apertura de su programa.
"Cuando hicimos estos premios en 2003, en Miami, hubo todo un sector de cubanos que veía el evento con ojo de lupa, porque les preocupaba mucho cuál iba a ser la interacción de los músicos, y les expliqué que nosotros no otorgamos pasaportes, sino que le entregamos el premio a quién se lo merezca y se acabó", concluye.
Abaroa es un fanático de las listas. Le encanta enumerar todo lo que pueda entre sus razonamientos, como una especie de Rob Gordon -aquella creación del escritor británico Nick Hornby para la novela Alta fidelidad , que tan bien interpretó John Cusack en la pantalla grande-, pero ejecutivo, digamos. Con la misma simpatía, quizás, aunque bastante menos atormentado, por cierto.
Con la firme intención de acercar la Academia al mercado argentino, Abaroa pasó por Buenos Aires y dialogó con LA NACION acerca de los objetivos de esta "organización sin fines de lucro", de los nuevos desafíos que afronta y de la abrumadora lista de premios que anda dando vueltas por el mundo del entretenimiento.
-¿Por qué escogieron a la Argentina para otorgar estos premios?
-Básicamente, porque la Argentina, México y España son países con muy poca representatividad dentro de la Academia. Los tres tienen una tradición musical indiscutible y, quizá por ello también, una arrogancia musical que hace que tengamos que dedicarles más tiempo. Durante los primeros años, nos pusimos metas muy limitadas, y no nos dedicamos a visitar los países como queríamos. Aquí hicimos eventos educativos, en los que invitamos a jóvenes a que asistan y puedan hablar con los grandes monstruos y leyendas de la canción. Estuvieron Diego Torres, Fito, [León] Gieco, [Luis Alberto] Spinetta, [Alejandro] Lerner, pero de eso ya hace tres años.
-¿Qué opina acerca del retroceso de la industria discográfica del que se habla cotidianamente?
-Si bien el nuestro no es un premio de industria, sino de música, ya que no entregamos premios con base a éxitos de ventas, queremos que a la industria le vaya mejor. Creo que el peor daño de todo esto es que con el retroceso, muchos jóvenes artistas no van a poder ver la luz, porque las discográficas no podrán apostar por ellos. Pero, por otro lado, el hecho de que no haya tanta inversión de las compañías multinacionales hace que los jóvenes tengan mayor libertad creativa... ¿Eso significa que el día de mañana serán un éxito? No lo sé, ya se verá.
Abaroa sostiene que el Grammy latino "es un premio que realmente le cambia la vida a mucha gente, hay artistas que por recibir una nominación toman un acto de relevancia en su propia compañía discográfica o a lo mejor les da los bríos para confiar mucho más en su producto, o hacen toda una campaña en medios por el hecho de estar nominados. Para algunos artistas, significa un reto personal, un sueño o un deseo, pero los Grammy no pasan inadvertidos para nadie".
-¿A qué cree que se debe eso?
-Creo que es muy reconocido, porque quienes otorgan los premios a los ganadores son sus propios colegas: ingenieros de grabación, productores, músicos, arregladores, productores discográficos, autores, compositores, intérpretes. El Grammy es un premio sólo de colegas, como el Pullitzer en materia periodística.
-¿Y por qué los premios en general, otorgados por la industria o no, están tan devaluados?
-Hablándote a corazón abierto, lo que ha sucedido es que en los últimos años, a nivel mundial, hay una abundancia de premios. Premios por todo y para todo, y yo creo que esa gran cantidad de premios confunde a la gente. Los Grammy tienen un valor muy especial, y ese valor se lo da la ética y la limpieza, aunque no por el buen gusto de los miembros, debo decirlo.
En su elegante discurso, Abaroa asegura que desde la aparición del departamento latino de los Grammy "hay una señal muy clara de que no es necesario copiar lo norteamericano o lo europeo, para rescatar nuestras propias tradiciones, nuestros instrumentos, nuestros ritmos, se puede hacer música muy rica, y ahí están Soledad, Juanes, Kevin Johansen y Café Tacuba para demostrarlo".
Soda Stereo: cena para tres
- Quince días atrás, se dieron a conocer los nominados para los Premios Gardel 2008, el premio que la Cámara Argentina de Productores de Industrias Fonográficas y Videogramas (Capif) otorga anualmente. Pero, así como los Grammy latinos tienen su reconocimiento extra con los Premios de la Presidencia (ver nota), el galardón local tendrá también su ceremonia de Personalidad del año. El premio que ya se llevaron León Gieco (2004), Diego Torres (2005), Gustavo Santaolalla (2006) y Andrés Calamaro (2007), este año será por triplicado: tras el regreso más convocante, Soda Stereo tendrá su cena de gala en abril próximo.
