Murió el baterista de Rush, Neil Peart
Un virtuoso entre virtuosos. Neil Peart, baterista de Rush, murió a los 67 años, según informó el vocero de la familia, Elliott Mintz.
El legendario músico formó parte de una de las agrupaciones que ayudó a definir el sonido de lo que se bautizó como rock progresivo canadiense, por lo que la noticia de su muerte tiene de luto a la escena musical.
El ex integrante de Rush murió tras una lucha contra el cáncer cerebral, que padecía desde hace tres años. Considerado uno de los mejores bateristas de la historia del rock, con un estilo extravagante pero absolutamente preciso, se unió al cantante y bajista Geddy Lee y al guitarrista Alex Lifeson en Rush en 1974. Su virtuosa interpretación y letras literarias, que se basaron en Ayn Rand y la ciencia ficción, entre otras influencias, ayudaron a hacer del trío una de las bandas más reconocidas a nivel mundial.
Peart se retiró del grupo después de que tocar en su último show el 1 de agosto de 2015, en el Forum en Inglewood, California. Dos años antes fue incluido en el Salón de la Fama del Rock and Roll.
La historia de Peart está enmarcada en una seguidilla de tragedias familiares: su primera esposa, Jacqueline, murió de cáncer en 1998, tras más de 20 años de casados, y apenas 10 meses después de que su única hija, Selena Taylor, muriera en un accidente automovilístico. Pear volvió a casarse en 2000. Ahora le sobrevivirán su viuda Carrie Nuttall y su hija de 10 años.
