El protagonista de “Nuestro hombre Flint” y “Affliction” falleció ayer de un ataque al corazón, a los 74 años
El actor James Coburn, que hizo papeles de galán recio en películas como "Nuestro hombre Flint", y "The Magnificent Seven", y que ganó un Oscar por su interpretación de un padre tiránico en "Affliction", murió ayer, a los 74 años, de un ataque al corazón.
Coburn ganó el Oscar al mejor actor de reparto por la película de 1998, tras luchar 10 años para superar un problema de artritis que le impidió el uso de una de sus manos.
Nacido en Laurel, Nebraska, el 31 de agosto de 1928, estudió actuación en Los Angeles y en Nueva York.
Hizo su debut cinematográfico en "Ride Lonesome", en 1959, seguido por otro film del Lejano Oeste, "Face of a Fugitive", el mismo año, pero saltó a la fama en 1960, cuando interpretó a un vaquero experto con el cuchillo en "The Magnificent Seven".
Luego de este éxito, Coburn hizo el papel de villano y de compinche de vaqueros en varias películas, hasta que a fines de la década del sesenta trabajó en dos parodias de los filmes de James Bond.
También recibió elogios por películas tales como "El analista del presidente" y "El Gran Escape". Finalmente, tras actuar en casi 100 películas, ganó el Oscar en 1998 por "Affliction".
Durante su discurso de aceptación del Oscar, dijo: "He estado haciendo este trabajo durante más de la mitad de mi vida. Creo que esta vez hice un papel bueno. Uno hace algunas películas por el dinero, y otras por amor. Esta película es fruto del amor".
