Murió Leo McKern, un notable "actor de reparto"
Tenía sólida formación en el teatro inglés
LONDRES (Reuters).– El veterano actor Leo McKern, famoso en todo el mundo, sobre todo por su participación en la serie de TV “Rumpole of the Bailey”, falleció en una casa de retiro del oeste de Inglaterra luego de sufrir complicaciones por un cuadro de diabetes. Tenía 82 años.

Leo Mc Kern había nacido en Australia. Alcanzó su cumbre profesional como actor teatral en Inglaterra y también supo triunfar en Estados Unidos, en este caso de la mano de un popular personaje televisivo, pero por sobre todo Leo McKern fue un intérprete cuya sólida formación shakesperiana le otorgó talento y expresividad suficiente como para salir airoso de cualquier desafío escénico. Se formó en las prestigiosas escuelas del teatro Old Vic y de la Royal Shakespeare Company desde 1946, año en que llegó a Inglaterra desde su Sydney natal. Quien recurría a McKern para conformar el reparto de una puesta teatral o una película siempre conseguía plena satisfacción. Brilló, sobre todo, en papeles secundarios que exigían funciones de mando o conducción (militares, gángsters, jefes políticos) a partir del tono severo, casi implacable, que nacía de su rostro.
Pero también supo lucirse en el terreno de la comedia: en “El hermano más listo de Sherlock Holmes” fue un recordado Moriarty, archirrival del famoso detective, y en “Socorro”, aquel recordado film de los Beatles en el que McKern personificaba con mucha gracia al secuestrador de Ringo.
Fue Cromwell en “El hombre de dos reinos”, David Ben Gurión en “La casa de la calle Garibaldi” y enigmático arqueólogo en “La profecía”. También brilló en “La hija de Ryan”, “Por la patria”, “La amante del teniente francés” y “La laguna azul”, antes de ganar reconocimiento masivo en la pantalla chica norteamericana a través de la serie “Rumpole of the Bailey”, entre 1975 y 1992.
