El décimo disco del maestro de la guitarra slide e hijo dilecto de las bandas de zapadas, Ben Harper, es su álbum más conmovedor y personal, que expresa, sin duda, el reciente estallido de su matrimonio con la actriz Laura Dern. Incluso los momentos más sosegados de Give Till It’s Gone (como "Pray That Our Love Sees the Dawn", en el que Jackson Browne hace las armonías) mezclan la desesperación con una fuerza desafiante. En los otros temas (principalmente "Rock N’ Roll Is Free", inspirado por Neil Young, y "Do It for You, Do It for Us"), Harper hace rugir su guitarra y logra una trabajosa redención a través de un ruido lacerante. Ringo Starr toca la batería en dos canciones que ofrecen una liberación psicodélica. Pero Harper chorrea sangre con frecuencia, y su dolor es una inspiración a la vez que una fuente de placer para nosotros.
