Recambio argentino en el BID
WASHINGTON (De nuestro corresponsal).- El gobierno de Néstor Kirchner designó al economista Eugenio Díaz Bonilla, un reconocido especialista en comercio agrícola, director ejecutivo argentino en el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID). Díaz Bonilla se hizo cargo el martes pasado de la representación argentina en reemplazo de Ricardo Carciofi, que ocupaba ese cargo desde 2000, cuando fue designado por la administración de Fernando de la Rúa.
El flamante funcionario, que también tiene a su cargo la representación de Haití, es un economista ligado al embajador argentino ante la Casa Blanca, José Octavio Bordón, de l que fue su principal asesor económico durante el período en el que el ex gobernador de Mendoza analizó el año pasado la posibilidad de lanzar su precandidatura a la Presidencia.
Díaz Bonilla se graduó en la Universidad de Buenos Aires y cuenta con una maestría en Relaciones Internacionales de la Escuela de Estudios Avanzados Johns Hopkins, dependiente de la universidad homónima, donde además logró un doctorado en Economía.
Cuando Kirchner accedió al poder fue uno de los candidatos a ocupar la Secretaría de Agricultura, que al final quedó en manos de Miguel Campos.
El economista trabajó hasta la semana pasada como investigador del Instituto de Investigación de Política Internacional de Alimentos (Ifpri, según sus siglas en inglés), donde desarrolló estudios sobre comercio agrícola y el impacto de los subsidios de los países industrializados en los países en desarrollo. En un informe que presentó recientemente indicó que esas políticas le cuestan a los países en desarrollo US$ 24.000 millones por año en pérdida de ingresos, de los cuales US$ 8300 millones corresponden a América latina y el Caribe.
