Goldman Sachs ha anunciado un aumento del 24% en el salario de su CEO, David Solomon, lo que lo lleva a percibir un total de US$31 millones en compensación para el próximo año fiscal. Este aumento se produce en un momento en que el banco de inversión reportó una caída del 24% en sus beneficios el año pasado.
Los beneficios de Goldman Sachs se desplomaron en 2023 contra 2022, aunque el banco aún registró ganancias por US$8.500 millones. El aumento de Solomon, de 62 años, refleja un salario base de US$2 millones, junto con una retribución variable de US$29 millones, de los cuales US$20,3 millones se otorgan en forma de acciones restringidas.
Este aumento salarial lo posiciona como uno de los ejecutivos mejor pagados del sector financiero en Estados Unidos. Según informes de Bloomberg, el incremento en la compensación de Solomon es el más alto entre los banqueros cuyos salarios se han hecho públicos.
Goldman Sachs justificó el aumento, citando el “liderazgo decisivo de Solomon para reconocer la necesidad de clarificar y simplificar la estrategia de futuro de la empresa”. Este respaldo al liderazgo de Solomon llega en un momento crucial para el banco, ya que busca adaptarse a un entorno económico cambiante y seguir siendo competitivo en el mercado financiero global.
El mes pasado, JP Morgan, uno de los principales competidores de Goldman Sachs, anunció que había aumentado el salario de su CEO, Jamie Dimon, a US$36 millones por el año fiscal anterior, un aumento del 4,3% respecto al año anterior.
Pronóstico para 2024
Solomon afirmó el año pasado que las posibilidades de que la economía estadounidense entre en recesión han caído en comparación con la situación de hace un año.
De esta forma, el directivo se ha remitido a las cifras avanzadas por los economistas de su propia entidad, que este septiembre recortaron hasta el 15% la probabilidad a doce meses vista de que Estados Unidos entrase en recesión frente a la estimación del 20% realizada en julio.
Las probabilidades de un “aterrizaje suave” de la primera economía mundial se verían reforzadas por la resistencia mostrada ante la pertinaz inflación y la consiguiente subida de tipos de interés acometida por la Reserva Federal (Fed) para hacerle frente. A pesar de esto, Solomon ha considerado que la inflación seguirá enquistada en 2024.
