Bioceres anunció hoy la firma de un acuerdo de investigación y servicios con Nature Source Improved Plants (NSIP) para diseñar y establecer un programa de mejoramiento acelerado de soja HB4. Según indicaron desde la empresa, se desarrollará en Estados Unidos y estará basado en la utilización del análisis avanzado de NSIP y el conjunto completo de tecnologías y experiencia de mejoramiento predictivo.
En el marco del acuerdo, NSIP –empresa dedicada al mejoramiento genético y a la producción de material vegetal de alto desempeño– empleará su tecnología de optimización computacional para mejorar la investigación, el mapeo y la priorización de áreas de cultivo propensas a ser afectadas por la sequía en mercados internacionales clave.
Por su parte, Bioceres buscará desarrollar de manera más eficiente variedades de HB4 específicas y, de ese modo, acelerar y fortalecer el mejoramiento y la comercialización. Otros beneficios esperados son menores costos de prueba y desarrollo asociados con la utilización de tecnologías.
"Con el beneficio de las tecnologías de reproducción genómica de NSIP, estamos diseñando un programa de reproducción avanzado para acelerar la disponibilidad de productos y las asociaciones comerciales en los EE.UU., donde esperamos que nuestra tecnología patentada de tolerancia a la sequía se afiance rápidamente", señaló Gerónimo Watson, director de Tecnología de Bioceres.
"La incorporación de las tecnologías de NSIP en el desarrollo de variedades de semillas de soja y trigo HB4 también nos ayudará a apuntar mejor a una gama más amplia de regiones de cultivo propensas de ser afectadas por la sequía en todo el mundo, así como a llevarlas al mercado más rápido," concluyó.
En la Argentina la soja tolerante a sequía está aprobada desde 2015, pero todavía no se comercializa a la espera de una aprobación de China, el mayor comprador del mundo.
