Dylan Thomas es el Caballo del Año en Europa. Un título merecido, aunque todavía son muchos los que cuestionan el hecho de que no haya sido distanciado cuando se impuso en el Arco de Triunfo. El hijo de Danehill fue elegido por el jurado de los premios Cartier, que desde 1991 distinguen a los más destacados ejemplares del Viejo Continente.
Una combinación de puntos que se arma a partir de los principales clásicos, el punto de vista de un grupo de periodistas especializados y el voto de lectores de los periódicos británicos Racing Post y The Daily Telegraph. El 40% de la elección recae en los resultados de clásicos, otro tanto surge de la discusión del panel de expertos y el 20% restante corresponde a la elección del público.
Además de ganar el Arco de Triunfo, Dylan Thomas, de 4 años, venció en el King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G 1), en Ascot, para redondear seis victorias de Grupo 1 en el total de su campaña, que incluye un triunfo ante Ouija Board (en 2006), la notable yegua que fue elegida como el mejor sangre pura de 2006.
La última carrera del caballo entrenado en Ballydole fue la Breeders Cup Turf, en la que finalizó quinto. Propiedad del grupo de John Magnier y Michael Tabor, Dylan Thomas ingresará el año próximo como padrillo a Coolmore, en Irlanda, y su servicio ya fue cotizado en 50.000 euros.
Este grupo, junto con el entrenador Aidan O Brien agregó a sus distinciones las que obtuvieron Peeping Fawn (también por Danehill), como mejor 3 años, y Yeats (Sadler s Wells), seleccionado mejor fondista por segundo año consecutivo.
En el rubro mejor 2 años macho, el invicto New Approach (Galileo) alcanzó el premio ante Río de la Plata, el destacado potrillo que es hijo de la yegua argentina Express Way (Ahmad). New Approach había vencido dos veces a Río de la Plata.
La francesa Natagora (Divine Light) sobresalió entre las potrancas y Authorized (Montjeu) se llevó la distinción reservada a los machos de 3 años.
