Shiffrin es "fantástica", afirma el mítico Stenmark a la AFP
La estadounidense Mikaela Shiffrin, ahora única poseedora del récord de victorias en la Copa del Mundo (87), es "verdaderamente impresionante, fantástica", afirmó, sobre la norteamericana la leyenda sueca de esquí alpino Ingemar Stenmark, este sábado en declaraciones a la AFP.
"Es algo grande para ella. Además, ha batido el récord en Are (Suecia), donde logró su primera victoria en Copa del Mundo", añadió Stenmark, cuya marca de 86 victorias estuvo en su poder durante 34 años.
Esta vieja gloria del esquí alpino, que tiene ahora 66 años, vio la actuación de Shiffrin de este sábado por televisión y afirmó no lamentar haber sido superado en la historia de su deporte.
"He ostentado este récord durante 34 años y no es algo que se me pasara por la mente salvo cuando alguien estaba cerca de batirlo, primero con Lindsey Vonn y luego ya con Shiffrin", comentó Stenmark.
El exesquiador sueco dominó las disciplinas técnicas del esquí mundial en los años 1970 y 1980 no tuvo todavía la ocasión de felicitar directamente a Shiffrin: "No tengo su número de teléfono y de todas formas sé que ahora va a estar muy ocupada".
Esta semana, Stenmark había afirmado en una entrevista a la AFP que Shiffrin podía "ganar cien carreras o incluso más".
"Lo tiene todo, buenas aptitudes físicas, un buen equilibrio y gran fuerza mental", detalló. "Tiene tanto talento que las otras esquiadoras deben asumir riesgos para vencerla y cometen así pequeños errores. Y entonces ella puede esquiar de manera más segura y ganar", estimó.
Stenmark se impuso en su día en 46 gigantes y 40 eslálones, antes de poner punto final a su carrera en 1989.
