Palestinos acusan a Israel de sofocar las protestas
TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — El primer ministro palestino acusó al nuevo gobierno ultranacionalista de Israel de bloquear “incluso las formas no violentas de combatir la ocupación”, según una entrevista publicada el lunes, después de que Israel respondiera a los esfuerzos exitosos de los palestinos de buscar ayuda de Naciones Unidas.
El primer ministro, Mohammad Shtayyeh, hizo esas declaraciones tras una serie de medidas punitivas tomadas por el nuevo gobierno israelí desde que asumió el poder a finales del mes pasado, como la reciente decisión de prohibir la bandera palestina en espacios públicos. Israel también ha despojado a autoridades palestinas de sus privilegios y disuelto una reunión de padres palestinos para hablar sobre la educación de sus hijos.
El ministro israelí de Seguridad Nacional ordenó el domingo por la noche a la policía que retirase las banderas palestinas en espacios públicos, una medida simbólica después de lo que un grupo israelí de derechos describiera como el año con más muertos en el conflicto en décadas.
“Hoy ordené a la Policía de Israel que aplique la prohibición de ondear cualquier bandera de la OLP que muestre identificación con una organización terrorista en cualquier espacio público y detenga cualquier incitación contra el Estado de Israel”, anunció en Twitter el ministro, Itamar Ben-Gvir.
El nuevo gobierno del primer ministro, Benjamin Netanyahu, ha actuado deprisa contra los palestinos en represalia por una campaña palestina de que el máximo organismo judicial de Naciones Unidas se pronuncia por la ocupación militar israelí iniciada hace 55 años por Israel sobre Cisjordania.
Ben-Gvir, un beligerante líder de ultraderecha conocido por su retórica contra los árabes, provocó condenas internacionales la semana pasada cuando visitó el lugar de culto más disputado de Jerusalén.
Shtayyeh dijo al periódico Haaretz que las sanciones israelíes están diseñadas para que la Autoridad Palestina se derrumbe, y advirtió que tendrían graves consecuencias.
“Tenemos derecho a quejarnos y a decir al mundo que sufrimos”, dijo en declaraciones publicadas el lunes. “Israel quiere impedir incluso la forma menos violenta de combatir la ocupación”.
“El gobierno israelí está abriendo una guerra abierta contra los símbolos y componentes del Estado de Palestina”, afirmó Ahmad Aldeek, asistente del ministro palestino de Exteriores.
“Esto aumenta nuestra insistencia de perseguir al gobierno israelí y llevarlo a juicio en todos los foros internacionales”, dijo Aldeek el lunes.
Según la ley israelí, ondear la bandera palestina no es un delito. Un fiscal general determinó en 2014 que una ordenanza emitida décadas antes daba autoridad a la policía para confiscar una bandera si producía alteraciones del orden público o rompía la paz, o si se hacía en apoyo del terrorismo. La orden de ben-Gvir, según un grupo, insinúa falsamente que cualquier exhibición pública de la bandera palestina supone una infracción de esa clase.
“Eso da a la policía una discreción sin límites para prohibir el ondeo de la bandera palestina en toda circunstancia”, indicó en un comunicado Adalah, un grupo de derechos legales de la minoría árabe.
La última orden de Ben-Gvir no era la primera disputa en torno a la bandera palestina.
Los colores rojo, verde y blanco de la bandera palestina tienen un gran simbolismo en el conflicto. El pasado mayo, la policía antimotines israelí golpeó a los porteadores del féretro en el funeral de la asesinada periodista de Al Jazeera Shireen Abu Akleh, lo que hizo que casi dejaran caer el ataúd. La policía arrancó banderas palestinas de las manos de la gente y lanzó granadas aturdidoras para dispersar a los asistentes.
En el pasado, Israel consideró la bandera palestina como la enseña de un grupo armado equivalente al palestino Hamas o el grupo libanés chií Hezbollah. Pero después de que Israel y los palestinos firmaran una serie de acuerdos de paz interinos conocidos como los Acuerdos de Oslo, la bandera fue reconocida como enseña de la Autoridad Palestina, creada para administrar Gaza y partes de la ocupada Cisjordania.
Israel se opone a que la AP realice ninguna tarea oficial en Jerusalén Oriental, y la policía ha disuelto eventos en el pasado a los que acusaba de tener lazos con la AP.
Netanyahu dijo el domingo a su gobierno que las medidas contra los palestinos pretenden impedir lo que describió como un paso “extremo contra Israel" en Naciones Unidas.
Los ciudadanos palestinos de Israel suponen un 20% de la población y han tenido una relación complicada con el estado desde su creación en 1948, cuando cientos de miles de palestinos huyeron o se vieron obligados a marcharse en los sucesos tras la formación del estado de Israel.
Los que se quedaron se convirtieron en ciudadanos, aunque algunos israelíes les miran con suspicacia debido a sus víncilos con los palestinos en Cisjordania, la Franja de Gaza y Jerusalén Este, territorios capturados por Israel en la Guerra de Oriente Medio de 1967.
Los palestinos reclaman las tres zonas para un estado independiente. El nuevo gobierno de Netanyahu está dominado por líderes de línea dura que se oponen a la formación de un estado palestino.
