Forex-dólar se hunde a mínimos de enero; yuan continúa su ascenso

Nueva york/londres, 25 mayo (reuters) - el índice dólar tocó mínimos de cuatro meses y medio el martes, cuando los mercados parecían aceptar los argumentos de la reserva federal de que la política monetaria debería mantenerse laxa porque las fuerzas inflacionarias son en general débiles, mientras los bancos estatales de china intentaban frenar un repunte del yuan.
* El yuan onshore se apreció a 6,4016 unidades por dólar, el nivel más fuerte desde 2018, después de abrir a 6,4110. Los principales bancos estatales de China, de acuerdo a cuatro fuentes, compraron dólares estadounidenses a alrededor de 6,4 yuanes en la tarde de Asia en un movimiento visto como un esfuerzo para enfriar el repunte del yuan.
* La debilidad del dólar se produjo cuando el rendimiento de los bonos del Tesoro de referencia a 10 años alcanzó nuevos mínimos de dos semanas y se situaba en 1,579% a media mañana en Nueva York.
* Las tasas de interés en muchos otros países desarrollados subieron el mes pasado y han hecho que sus monedas sean más competitivas frente al dólar, dijo Marc Chandler, estratega jefe de mercado de Bannockburn Global Forex en Nueva York.
* La perspectiva por el momento es que esa diferencia continúe, agregó. "La Reserva Federal parece estar detrás de varios otros bancos centrales en el ajuste y recalibración de la política monetaria", dijo Chandler.
* El índice dólar caía un 0,2% frente a las principales monedas en Nueva York después de haber perdido hasta un 0,3% a 89,533, su nivel más bajo desde el 7 de enero.
* El euro, en tanto, subió a los niveles de principios de enero y ganaba un 0,3% a 1,2249 dólares.
* Los estrategas cambiarios han dicho que es probable que el dólar se debilite hasta que los mercados vean datos económicos y tasas de interés más sólidos en Estados Unidos. Los datos más sólidos podrían llegar el viernes, con las nuevas lecturas sobre los precios al consumidor en Estados Unidos en abril y una encuesta a los gerentes de compras.
