Declan Rice vuelve a los entrenamientos con Inglaterra
El mediocampista defensivo Declan Rice, ausente de la práctica del miércoles, volvió este jueves a los entrenamientos de la selección inglesa, a dos días de su partido contra Francia por los cuartos de final del Mundial de Catar-2022.
Según anunció su compañero Kalvin Phillips, "Declan volvió a entrenar y se siente bien", dijo cuando se le consultó si estaba preparado para reemplazarlo si el volante del West Ham, titular hasta ahora en el Mundial, no esta a disposición para el choque ante los galos.
Rice estuvo "enfermo" el miércoles, dijo el entorno de la selección, sin precisar la naturaleza o gravedad de sus síntomas.
Rice es clave en el mediocampo de la selección de los Tres Leones, ya que le da el equilibrio entre defensa y ataque.
Philipps, fichado por el Manchester City el pasado verano del Leeds, solo ha jugado 53 minutos en 4 partidos en todas las competiciones a nivel de clubes esta temporada, debido a una lesión en el hombro.
Pese a ello, el DT Gareth Southgate lo incluyó en el plantel mundialista de Inglaterra, donde fue importante en la Eurocopa-2020 en la que perdió la final en Wembley contra Italia.
"Es cierto que no jugué todo el tiempo que me hubiera gustado, pero cuando ves a los jugadores que eran mis favoritos, realmente no puedo discutir" las elecciones del entrenador, admitió en referencia a la línea compuesta por Rice, Jude Bellingham y Jordan Henderson.
"Son increíblemente buenos. Han dado muy buenos resultados", añadió Philipps.
"Ni siquiera pensaba que podría jugar estos partidos", prosiguió sobre sus apariciones ante Gales (3-0), donde la asistencia en el último gol de Marcus Rashford, y ante Senegal (3-0). "Pero quienquiera que sea convocado estará listo para este desafío y ayudará al equipo a ganar", afirmó.
Inglaterra se mide con Francia el sábado en el estadio Al Bayt, en Al Khor, a 45 km de Doha, desde las 19H00 GMT en el partido que cerrará los cuartos de final de Catar-2022.
